• Mining & Safety

Mining is one of the most challenging industries when it comes to protecting the health and safety of workers. There are several hazardous gases that are the product of mining and mineral processing. The main components are the flammable gas like CH4, carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulphide (H2S). To minimise the risks related to exposure to hazardous gases and to ensure the safety of miners, it is essential and very important to use gas analyzers and 24h online monitoring detectors.

The flammable gas is the most common hazardous gas in mines – especially in coal mines, where large pockets may be present. Methane, one of the combustible gas which is lighter than air, tends to rise to the ceiling of a mine or tunnel leaving it virtually undetectable to the senses. Methane can cause injury or death by asphyxiation, when it is in high concentrations, or by exploding when ignited by a flame or spark. The sensors inside the Safegas detectors can detect up various combustible gas, which can display accurate data.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a product of combustion of organic matter under conditions of restricted oxygen supply, which prevents complete oxidation to carbon dioxide. Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-irritating, making it difficult for people to detect. Inhaling even relatively small amounts of it can lead to hypoxic injury, neurological damage, and possibly death. It can be found in mines as a byproduct of vehicle exhaust and is also created by blasts and explosions (Afterdamp). The safegas detectors are equipped with the CITY brand CO sensors, it will keep the stability ,fast response and accuracy even the harsh environment in the coal mines.

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a highly poisonous gas common in most mines. Harmful concentrations are often found in gypsum mines, tunnel digging, caissons, and can be mixed with natural gas. Because it is heavier than air it tends to accumulate at the bottom of poorly ventilated spaces like mines. Although very pungent at first (rotten eggs/flatulence), it quickly deadens the sense of smell, so potential victims may be unaware of its presence until it is too late.

To detect the oxygen O2 is also very important in mining environments. Breathing oxygen is absolutely necessary to human life. It’s very necessary to detect the oxygen level inside the coal mines, especially the confined spaces.

The response speed for gas detectors in mines is much more inportant because saving seconds on response times can also mean saving lives. Building on its years of design experience, safegas detectors can detect O2,H2S,combustible gas, CO at the same time, are equipped with the internal pump, which will get the gas from outside into the detectors, it’s much quicker, faster response. What’s more, it can be connected with a tube, to help you detect the inside gas level before people coming.
